Everything you need to know about the Quad Lock Wireless Charging products

This is a collection of commonly asked questions about the operation of the Quad Lock Wireless Charger

What are the input power requirements?

  • Standard charging 5W - 5V/2A
  • Fast charging (7.5w & 10w) - 9V/1.7A

Most PC/MAC computer/laptop USB outlets only provide 5V/0.5-0.9A so are unsuitable for powering the Quad Lock Wireless Charger. We recommend using a QC 3.0 power adaptor as they will provide sufficient power for fast charging.

What is the difference between standard and fast wireless charging?

Standard wireless charging is 5W. Fast charge is anything above 5W. The Quad Lock Wireless charger supports 5W (all wireless charging phones), 7.5w (iPhone 8 and up) and 10w (Samsung S8 and up).

Charging Speeds seem much slower than using a cable?

Yes, unfortunately, even fast wireless charging is slower than using a cable. This is because wireless charging is only 70-80% efficient meaning 20-30% of the power is lost during the wireless transmission process.

Why are the LED light's flashing Green?

This indicates that the wireless charger is not getting enough power to charge at normal speed. It will still charge but at a much slower rate. This is due to not enough power being supplied from the USB outlets. We recommend using a power supply with a minimum of 5V/2A.

Why are the LED light's flashing Blue?

Flashing blue indicates an error

  1. Foreign object is detected, IE: metal object placed on head, or a phone that does not support wireless charging
  2. The charger is overheating. Once it cools down it will reset this error and continue operating. If you are getting this error when used in a car we recommend positing the charger near an A/C vent to help cool the device during use.

My phone overheats when using the wireless charger?

Due to the thickness of the Quad Lock mounting feature, the distance between the two charging coils is larger than normal so it generates more heat than other wireless chargers. If using in a car, positioning the phone/mount near an A/C vent can help keep the phone cool.

Why don't you recommend the use of the Universal Adaptor with the Quad Lock Wireless Charger?

The thickness from the Universal adaptor + phone case creates too large a distance between the wireless charging coils. Also we cannot guarantee the alignment of the adaptor as applied by the customer which can effect the alignment of the charging coils and charging performance, hence we do not recommend its use.

My USB-C cable falls out during use?

This is due to the cable not being pushed in hard enough to hear a click. Please push the cable in firmly and it should click in securely.
