How to connect the Quad Lock Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor and Cadence sensors

Below are a few instructions to help guide you through connecting your Bluetooth heart rate monitor and cadence sensor to your smartphone. Both of these sensors are Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices which means they connect via an App. They do not pair to your phone like a car kit or Bluetooth speaker. You will need a smartphone which has BLE capability which include iPhone 4S and later and  all Android phones with Android OS 4.3 or later which supports BLE. The sensors will not connect if you do not have these prerequisites.

Lets begin. You will need the following

1) Quad Lock Bluetooth HRM or cadence sensor

2) An iPhone 4S or later or an Android phone running Android Os 4.3 or later which supports Bluetooth Smart also known as Bluetooth LE 4.0

3) An App which supports BLE Heart Rate Monitors such as MapMyRun, MapMyRide, Roadbike etc

Note: Strava discontinued support for Bluetooth or Ant+ sensors as of Oct 2019

Connecting the Heart Rate Monitor

Step 1. Make sure Bluetooth is active on your phone. The sensors are BLE Smart devices, you need to connect to the sensor from within the App you wish to use them with. BLE sensors do not pair to your phone from the Bluetooth settings page like bluetooth speakers etc.

Step 2 Moisten/wet the sensor pads on the inside of the heart rate strap where they make contact with your skin. Put the heart rate strap on, with the heart rate transmitter pod resting just below your sternum. Ladies, this should rest just below a sports bra.

Step 3. Open your selected app and go to the sensor settings (varies for each app). Each App is different so if you have trouble finding the App settings please contact the App Developer directly. You must be wearing the HRM for it to transmit a signal. If done correctly your sensor should display in the App.

Step 4. Select your sensor.

Step 5. Once connected the App will be able to record your HRM or Cadence.

Connecting the Cadence Sensor

Step 1. Make sure Bluetooth is active on your phone. The sensors are BLE Smart devices, you need to connect to the sensor from within the App you wish to use them with. BLE sensors do not pair to your phone from the Bluetooth settings page like bluetooth speakers etc.

Step 2 Attach the cadence sensor to your pedal using the supplied o-rings.

Step 3. Open your selected app and go to the sensor settings (varies for each app). Each App is different so if you have trouble finding the App settings please contact the App Developer directly. You must be spinning the pedals for the cadence sensors to transmit a signal. If done correctly your sensor will display in the App.

Step 4. Select your sensor.

Step 5. Once connected the App will sense your Cadence speed.
